The Green Lantern Pizza Story

Green lantern pizza was born in 1987 from a single family kitchen in Madison Heights, Michigan. Founder Tony Mancuso learned his craft from his Italian grandmother — hand-stretching dough before sunrise, layering fresh sauce made from vine-ripened tomatoes, and never rushing the process.

What began as a neighborhood secret quickly became a local institution. Today, the same recipes and the same unwavering commitment to quality continue to define every pizza that leaves our kitchen on John R Road.

1987

The First Oven

Tony Mancuso opens Green Lantern Pizza in a small 800 sq ft space on John R Road with one stone oven, three tables, and a family recipe passed down through generations.

1993

Expansion & Recognition

After winning "Best Pizza" in the Oakland County local press three years running, we expanded our dining room and added a full delivery service to reach more hungry neighbors.

2001

Second Generation Steps In

Tony's daughter Maria joins the team fresh from culinary school in Chicago, introducing new artisan techniques and an expanded menu of specialty pies that became instant classics.

2009

Community Roots Deepen

We launch our annual "Slice for Schools" charity drive, donating over 2,000 pizzas to local school fundraisers. A tradition that continues to this day.

2015

Full Renovation & New Kitchen

A major kitchen renovation brings a second wood-fired oven and a modern prep station, cutting wait times in half while preserving every bit of our handcrafted tradition.

2024

Online Ordering & Catering Launch

We launch online ordering and a full catering menu to serve corporate clients, weddings, and events throughout the greater Detroit metro area — bringing Green Lantern Pizza to even more tables.
